YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka Opens Its Doors for Healthy Kids Day
A free community event to help families embrace healthy habits
On June 7, 2015, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka will join YMCAs across Canada in hosting the YMCA Healthy Kids Day. Designed to help kids and families embrace healthy habits that can become a lifelong practice, this free community event will focus on fun and engaging activities, practical information and simple ways to be healthier in spirit, mind and body.
Across Canada, most children do not meet recommended levels of daily physical activity. Rising rates of obesity and related chronic disease tell us that getting kids active should be a top priority for parents, schools, and all Canadians. “Our children’s health is very important to us. The Y is there to support families – it can be a challenge for parents to do it on their own,” says Karen Pulla, Vice President of Health, Wellness & Community Recreation Programs, YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. “On June 7th, YMCAs across Canada are opening their doors for free to the community to celebrate Healthy Kids Day. It’s a chance for parents to connect, learn about healthy habits, and get the whole family active together under one roof.”
Although the YMCA models and incorporates healthy practices into its programs and activities for children and youth year round, YMCA Healthy Kids Day places special emphasis on teaching children, youth and their families about exploring healthy living habits that will make a difference throughout the year.
The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka will be hosting YMCA Healthy Kids Day on June 7th throughout Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. All activities are free to the community, unless otherwise indicated.
FREE community activities include:
The Barrie YMCA will feature Family Yoga, Family Swim, craft & science stations, Family Bootcamp and more!
